Dr. Maiz and your Wisdom Tooth Extraction

Many people know about the wisdom teeth, as well as their tendency to induce a lot of discomfort when they emerge. Because our third molars are no longer necessary, our jaws are not structurally able to accommodate the extra teeth, leaving our third molars to erupt where they see fit. We know that the coming in of your third molars can be painful for some, and Dr. Carlos Yamil Maiz is able to take care of your situation by offering wisdom teeth extraction to his patients!
The important thing to Dr. Maiz, besides your comfort, is making sure that you are well informed throughout the entire extraction process. There are very few people who have the jaw structure able to house the third molars; most, however, are not. If your jaw is not able to have room for your wisdom teeth, some of the effects that can take place with your smile are crowded teeth, partially erupted wisdom teeth, or impacted wisdom teeth. When your teeth are partially impacted, that can lead to germs multiplying, causing infections or even cysts. Also, partially impacted teeth can be detrimental to your smile in regards to room, as they will find any convenient direction to emerge. Whether it is sideways, backwards, or vertically, the teeth will find any way to come through, causing the rest of your smile to possibly be in danger.
Though the thought of an extraction does not sound like the most appealing way to spend your time, the good news is that wisdom teeth extraction is a routine, simple procedure than can be done quickly and efficiently in usually one office visit. We will also provide a prescription for pain relievers, as we do not want you to be in any sort of discomfort.

Save Your Smile with Root Canal Therapy

Living in pain is never an easy thing, especially when it involves your teeth. Tooth pain can be unbearable, and doing nothing about it will only make it worse. If you are suffering from an ongoing tooth ache, it is most likely because your tooth has become infected. Left untreated, an infected tooth can wreak havoc on the rest of your smile, leaving you with a much more expensive and painful outcomes down the road. Florida Smiles Dental understands the importance of making sure your smile is as healthy as it can be, which is why we offer root canal therapy to our patients!
A root canal needs to be performed when the tooth’s internal and external structure has been compromised. Perhaps due to a crack or a large cavity, the tooth’s inner structure has become infected with bacteria, causing you extensive pain and discomfort. Other things that can cause the need for root canal therapy are deep restorations and dental trauma.
We begin your root canal by focusing on the infected tooth and removing the harmful bacteria. The tooth’s pulp is removed, and then the tooth is filled. We will be able to provide some local anesthesia to help with the pain, as well as apply some antibiotic ointment to the infected area. After that, a crown is usually placed at the top, protecting the tooth from further harm. At the end, you feel relieved and alleviated of pain!
If you are experiencing sensitivity to hot and cold foods and drinks, pain, swelling, throbbing, and a bad taste in your mouth, you may need a root canal. Make an appointment at our office, and we’ll be glad to help!

Restore Your Smile with Dental Implants

If you have teeth missing from your smile, you may find it difficult to be confident.  Many people consider a smile a first impression, and when you are not one hundred percent secure, you may find it difficult to make the impression you want to make. Dentures and partials are one way to handle the situation, but you may want something more permanent to help with your smile. Luckily, at Florida Smiles Dental, Dr. Carlos Yamil Maiz is able to restore your smile with the help of dental implants!
The process of getting your dental implants begins with a consultation with Dr. Maiz. There, he will be able to fully assess your smile in its current state, as well as ask you about your long term goals regarding your smile. You will also have that opportunity to bring up any questions or concerns you may have, as we want you to be as informed as possible throughout the entire process.
Dental implanting involves embedding a titanium screw into the jaw bone. This screw will act as a new tooth root, and will fuse with your natural bone over time. After a sufficient amount of healing as passed, the abutment is added, which is essentially a support system for the screw and the crown. The tooth-resembling crown is placed on top, completing your new look! At the end of the procedure, you are left with nothing but a beautiful, perfect smile!
Dental implants can be beneficial, as they have the opportunity to give you back the confidence you may have lost feeling insecure about your smile. Also, dental implants can save the rest of your mouth from havoc, as teeth will begin to shift to make up for the empty space, resulting in a much more complicated procedure. Dental implants are a wonderful way to regain self-esteem, security, and a healthy smile!

Care For Your Gums with Dr. Maiz

For many people, focusing on the outside appearance of things is more important that taking care of the internal issues. Well, a lot of people do the same thing with their teeth. Instead of paying attention to the health of their gums, they strictly focus on what their teeth look like. Healthy gums and healthy teeth go with each other, and at Florida Smiles Dental, Dr. Carlos Yamil Maiz and our experienced team stress the importance of healthy gums for a healthier you!
With over 80% of the population living with some form of gum disease, chances are you may be living with it as well and not even be aware of it! Though it may not seem like a big deal, severe stages of gum disease can affect multiple areas of your body, putting you at a higher risk of heart disease, stroke, dementia, tooth loss, bone loss, and much more. It may seem scary, but the good thing is that gum disease is completely reversible if taken care of early. When you come in for your appointment, Dr. Maiz will be able to get a comprehensive look at your smile and assess the current state of your gums. We will perform routine scaling and root-planing, that way we are able to remove plaque and tartar as well as the bacteria along your gum line. Our talented hygienists will be able to make your smile glow, leaving your mouth feeling clean and lovely!
In cases of severe gum disease, Dr. Maiz will perform laser dentistry, being able to tackle the bacteria on your gum line. Also with laser dentistry, the laser only attacks the infected gums, leaving the healthy gum tissue alone. The laser also promotes healthy gum tissue growth, having it bond with your teeth better.
There are things you can do to keep that clean feeling lasting even after you leave our office. Brushing and flossing at least twice a day, preferably between meals, is a simple yet effective way of having excellent oral health. Also, be sure to invest in an antibacterial mouthwash. Though brushing and flossing your teeth definitely removes bacteria, the mouthwash is able to reach all the small corners the toothbrush didn’t get.
If you feel as though your gums are in need of a little TLC, make an appointment at our office, and we’d be glad to help!
